When I was born
you were proud
Mother was
ousted from home
We had a cat
black and white
with a brown spot.
So I have heard.
After waiting
for hours on the deserted
pavement near the
Women’s Hospital on a full moon day
you brought me home
The cat run over
on our street the same
full moon day, so I have heard.
I was all red, with a big head
was very fair
skin and all you
took me to mother’s home
they welcomed her
because of me
So, I have heard.
No more you, no more mother’s mother
and not even Mother,
who were reunited
because of me,
a half century later
on a full moon night, I know.
We have a cat, black and white
no brown spot.
